Objet 3D Printer Recreates Fenway Park on Fox News

As seen on the Objet Blog: blog.objet.com This 3D printed model of Fenway Park was created on an Objet Connex500 3D printer and featured on Fox Morning News to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. The 3D printed model was created by successively laying down 16 micron layers of resin until the final part is built up into its final form. Each of the 40 seperate 3D printed pieces were then assembled. The final model weighs in at 105 pounds and is over three feet long.

3D printing Minecraft models with a Zprinter 650

The video shows the process of printing a Minecraft model on a Zprinter 650 3D printer. It starts after the model (created with the freeware tool Mineways) has been opened in the printing software and the print job was started. First, the printer prepares the printing chamber. Then, the model is printed by shooting colored glue on layer by layer of plaster powder. When all layers have been printed, the model can be dug out of the printing chamber with the help of a vacuum cleaner that is built into the printer. Then, the rest of the powder is removed with pressurized air in an extra chamber of the printer. After the model has been cleaned, is is fixated with special superglue, which also makes the colors more intense. As the model is basically some sort of sandstone, it absorbs most of the glue and gets very durable when it is dried. You can see some pictures of the printing process here: www.flickr.com

3D Printing Merges With Printed Electronics

A joint development between 3D printer maker, Stratasys and printed electronics system manufacturer, Optomec takes first step in merging these two technologies. The companies have created the first known model of a fully printed hybrid structure — a model of a wing for a UAV.

3D Printing Technology

With Z Corp’s 3D Printing Technology, the printer builds a model up from bottom to top, layer by layer. A roller puts a thin layer of powder on a platform and a print head sprays tiny drops of glue at specific places, printing a thin layer of your model. The platform lowers and the roller spreads another layer of powder. Coloring is done by combining 4 different pre-colored glues to match the requested surface color.

3D Printing of Hand-Crank Fan

Here’s my 3D print from Shapeways.com of my “Hand-Crank Fan” model. This model is a single print with six moving parts, and is designed for Shapeways’ nylon white strong & flexible material. The entire model is printed with all of the parts in position; nothing is assembled post-production. The 1:9 gear ratio (made from two sets of gears each with a 1:3 gear ratio) makes the fan blades rotate nine times for every single rotation of the crank. The grip of the handle freely rotates as well. Visit my shop at www.shapeways.com or my website at www.vertigopolka.com.

The Eden500V™ 3-Dimensional Printing System is the ideal solution for large-size model requirements or when high productivity is vital. Its build size of up to 500 x 400 x 200mm eliminates the need to glue smaller pieces together for large models and enables simultaneous printing of multiple models on a single build tray – cutting production time for models of all sizes. Ease of Use – Eden500V™ 3D Printer Based on Objet’s innovative PolyJet™ technology, Eden500V provides an easy to use, fast and clean solution for the precise building of any geometry. This drastically shortens product development cycles and significantly decreases time to market for new products. Models produced on the Eden500V have smooth and durable surfaces, with exceptionally fine details and an outstanding surface finish. The Eden500V offers high resolution in the y-axis of up to 600 dpi — with no difference on print speed. A choice of High Speed (HS) or High Quality (HQ) printing modes gives you maximum flexibility to achieve the quality you need in different timeframes. Featuring a compact footprint and sleek exterior design, Eden500V supports four 3.6kg Jumbo cartridges of material. This cartridge size allows unmanned operation for extended periods. When two 3.6 kg. cartridges for Model material and two for Support are inserted, the Eden500V can run for at least 72 hours of continuous unattended printing. That’s a full weekend of productivity, without weekend operator costs. Key Benefits
