from the press release Activision confirmed today that PROTOTYPE 2, the sequel to Radical Entertainment’s original best-selling game of 2009 — PROTOTYPE — is currently in development for 2012. PROTOTYPE 2′s first official trailer was revealed as a world premiere during this past weekend’s Spike TV Video Game Awards 2010 show, where fans of the shape-shifting open-world action franchise got their first glimpse into Sgt. James Heller, and why he is going to destroy PROTOTYPE’s original anti-hero,Alex Mercer. For those that missed it, head over to www.facebook.com/prototype to check out the trailer and be sure to become a fan. Gamers should also be on the lookout for the exclusive, in-depth first look preview of PROTOTYPE 2 in EGM magazine’s April 2011 issue. “When PROTOTYPE surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer,” said Ken Rosman, Studio Head, Radical Entertainment. “The team here at Radical is sincerely grateful to the fans and we are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with PROTOTYPE 2!” PROTOTYPE 2 is currently in development for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and the Games for Windows . The game is currently rated “RP” (Rating Pending) by the ESRB, with an expected “M” (Mature — Content that may be suitable for persons 17 and older).”

@TheWaluigiman1 The game says “Alex is dead” when you die, he is referred to as Alex throughout the game and could even be considered Mercer reborn/reincarnated. Why? Because throughout the game, he develops from a hateful being to someone who cares about his sister, even humanity and WANTED the virus eradicated. Why would he be good (as a virus) and suddenly turn bad in the next game? It haas to be more than just a whim. Someone may have consumed and taken Alex’s form.

@yairpolo1 James Heller is a shitty hollow character who’s entire reason for the game is to kill Mercer. Mercer is so much deeper than that and is bigger. He has many motivations.
@vgman94 Actually that really isn’t Alex Mercer. It’s the Blacklighht Virus. So he technically has no reason to be good. His job is to Infect as many people as possible as a Virus. So he shall do it.
Probably will pirate this game. Nobody wants to play a nigger except other niggers. Protagonist sounds boring and stale, not as deep as Alex. And hell, we all know Alex is a large reason people like Prorotype 1. Definitely not the shitty city.

@TheWaluigiman1 I know. I was making a joke. I saw one comment saying “Murder your maker? Okay. Mom, can you come here for a sec?”, so I was thinking about what it implies. Alex Mercer seems like a spiritual parent to Heller, except without any parental raising or bonds. I wonder what happened to Alex to make him a villain in this game. Can’t wait until they show more info. It’ll probably be in December or January when we get more information.
